Peter M. Loomer, BSc, DDS, Ph.D, MRCD

Professor and Dean of the School of Dentistry, University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, Texas

His work in global oral health is focused on improving the healthcare workforce and improving the oral health of underserved populations in developing nations with an emphasis on East and West Africa, the gulf states of the middle east, and Latin America. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, Fogarty International, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and others.

Yvonne De Paiva Buischi, DDS, Ph.D

Research Professor, Department of Periodontics, UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry, San Antonio, Texas

Born in Brazil, Dr. Buischi has worked extensively abroad – she is a former Associate Professor at the Preventive Dental Health Center, Karlstad, Sweden and Interim Director to The World Health Organization (WHO) Oral Health Program, Geneva. Dr. Buischi has published numerous papers in peer reviewed journals, authored 3 books and contributions to at least 6 book chapters, as well as delivered over 200 presentations in international meetings and universities abroad. Dr.Buischi’s global work includes research collaborations in Scandinavia, Japan, Brazil and Kenya. Her research interests are among others, global health, behavioral changes in oral health through educational evidence-based interventions and the link between general and oral health. Working with girls of poverty in rural East Africa is her main passion. Her research has been funded by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development – CNPq (Brazil), the National Institutes of Health and others.
